Many e-bikes are sold âdirect to consumerâ (versus at a bike shop), and that means like most things, you can also find e-bikes on Amazon. In general, we bucket the cost of e-bikes into three broad categories: <$1,000 and considered Inexpensive, $1,000 – $3,000 and considered Mid-range, and $3,000+ and considered High-end. âYou get what you pay for,â when it comes to e-bikes, and most sold on Amazon are inexpensive.
That said, there are a few good and inexpensive e-bikes that are sold on Amazon. SoâŚ
What is the best e-bike on Amazon in 2023?
The e-bikes sold on Amazon are entry level e-bikes that we would recommend for someone on a tight budget that is just dipping their toe into the world of e-bikes and wants an inexpensive e-bike from Amazon. Our top e-bike sold on Amazon is the Jasion EB7 2.0, and in this post weâve detailed why we like it, where it falls short, and what other e-bikes you can find on Amazon in 2023.
There are some things to keep in mind when buying an e-bike from Amazon:
- Itâs important to look for e-bikes that have common replaceable parts, such as the battery or motor, so that in the event that something breaks, itâs easier to find replacement parts.
- For any repairs after purchase, it might be challenging to find a bike shop to do them since you did not buy the e-bike from them. Itâs a good idea to ask your local bike shop if they do repairs on direct to consumer e-bikes ahead of time.
- You may need frequent repairs or tweaks after purchase because the e-bike components, such as the gears and brakes, are not usually from a known and trusted bike manufacturer. Many e-bikes sold on Amazon come with limited warranties, so be sure to check for that to help with the cost of repairs.
Without further ado, weâve done the research for you, so here are our top recommendations for the best e-bikes on Amazon in 2023.
Table of contents
Our Pick
Jasion EB7 2.0
What we like about it
The Jasion EB7 2.0 is a foldable e-bike. This has the obvious benefits of easy storage and transport. It comes with front and rear fenders to protect you from rain and puddle splash, and it has 7 gears to make it easy to tackle hills on your commute.
This e-bike is particularly comfortable to ride because it comes with fat tires that are thick and puncture-resistant, and it also has a front suspension fork and rear seat suspension to absorb the bumps.
We like that the rear derailleur is made by Shimano, which is very reputable. It also has a good battery and 500 watt motor to give you a comfortable 40 mile battery range.
Jasion offers a 2 year warranty which is better than other brands.
Finally, a neat feature is that it can charge your phone. There is a USB charging port on the side of the display control screen that can be used either when riding the bike or when stopped.
Based on our research, we think this is the strongest overall e-bike on Amazon.
Where it falls short
If you are on the taller side (6â+ ) you may find the geometry of the e-bike a bit awkward. This happens on most folding bikes. When the wheels are small and low to the ground and the seat and handlebars are fully extended it makes you feel disconnected from the e-bike, which can take some getting used to and feel especially awkward on turns.
Finally, like most e-bikes in this price range, it comes with mechanical disc brakes, which are not as smooth as hydraulic.
What weâve heard around town
- âPrice is reasonable and the bike is beautifulâ
- âThe fat tires make it fun to rideâ
- âThe positives out weigh the negativesâ
- âThe location of the key has caused it to be bent by the pedal a few times during the folding processâ
Runner Up
Lectric XP Lite
What we like about it
The Lectric XP Lite is another folding e-bike on this list. We like that it doesnât require assembly because itâs folded up when itâs shipped to you â just unfold and youâre good to go. Obviously since itâs a folding e-bike, itâs also great for easy transport and has a small footprint when itâs stored. Its battery is removable, which is helpful for storage and gives you more options for when/where to charge it.
We like that the Lectric XP Lite on the lighter end for e-bikes, clocking in at 46 lbs. Its handlebars are adjustable, making it easy to find a nice riding position (which also helps if you have multiple people who will be sharing the e-bike).
It has a few things that you do not always see for e-bikes in this price range: it comes with a throttle and five levels of pedal assist (up to 20mph), it includes an LCD display screen, and it has âcruise controlâ mode. The âcruise controlâ works similarly to cruise control on a car. The e-bike will try to maintain a speed based on the position of the throttle when cruise control is activated. It is deactivated when you apply the brakes. This is helpful for a long flat road, but you definitely need to be cautious and continue to pay attention when using it.
Where it falls short
First and foremost, Lectric has been having issues with counterfeit sellers creating storefronts in Amazon to sell knock off version. When you go to purchase on Amazon, double check that the seller is listed as âLectric EBikesâ and that they have reviews.
One potential downside depending on your needs is that Lectric XP Lite is a single speed (unlike other folding e-bikes on this list that come with multiple gears), so it doesnât have gears to change when you hit a big hill. That said, this is mostly not an issue if youâll be riding on flats or if you have a hilly but short commute. If you have a hilly commute thatâs also long, you may find that using the pedal assist on the hills drains the battery too quickly.
Same as the other folding e-bikes on this list, if you are on the taller side (6â+ ) you may find the geometry of the bike a bit awkward. When the wheels are small and low to the ground and the seat and handlebars are fully extended it makes you feel disconnected from the e-bike, which can take some getting used to and feel especially awkward on turns.
This e-bike doesnât come with fenders, so if you plan to take it anywhere near a puddle your shoes and back of your shirt are going to be sprayed with water.
What we’ve heard around town
- âThis is my first electric bike and i am so impressed with the quality and performance–love this bikeâ
- âIt’s been a solid bike that I’m really happy withâ
- âReally enjoying this e-bike, it comes with a lot of accessoriesâ
- âThis e-bike is a lot lighter, smaller, and more suited for those who are going to use it for commutingâ
- âOnly thing that is bothering me is that the seat is a little uncomfortableâ
- âIt was really difficult to install the lockâ
All of the Rest
Heybike Cityscape
What we like about it
This is a solid e-bike for this price. We like the beach cruiser style frame, which puts you in a nice upright and comfortable position when riding (great if your back typically bothers you when youâre on a long bike ride). The pedal assist provides up to 40 miles of battery range, which is pretty good, and the front suspension and a shock absorber seat post give you a more comfortable ride on the bumps.
The rear derailleur is a name-brand (Shimano) with seven gears making it easy for you to tackle hills on your commute. You donât always see nice name-brand parts in this price range, so this is definitely a plus. It also comes with rain fenders to keep you dry if you ride it through puddles or in the rain.
Heybike provides a 1-year warranty on the bike and a 2-year battery warranty, which is especially helpful for e-bikes in this price range that may be more prone to needing small tweaks or repairs after purchase. Heybikeâs customer service is also pretty good. They claim that they respond to every email within 24 hour (excluding holidays and weekends).
Finally, this e-bike accommodates riders in a wide range of heights, from 5â-4â to 6â-5â, which is helpful if you have multiple people riding the same e-bike in the house (like is the case in our house!).
Where it falls short
The one main flag is that Heybike has added a shock absorber coil to the seat post of this e-bike to soften the bumps, but it reduces how low the seat can go. When the seat is in the lowest position some people have reported that the seat lever hits the battery casing causing issues. This is something to keep in mind if you are around 5â-4â.
Besides that main callout, there are only two other things to note: this is the slowest e-bike on this list, with a top speed of 19mph (though itâs only the slowest by 1mph), and the battery is only 36v battery, compared to most others on this list that are 48v. In general, a larger battery is better at producing power quickly and efficiently.
What weâve heard around town
- âI worried a little about getting a 350w motor, but this thing has plenty of get up and go.â
- âEasier to put together than some other e-bikesâ
- âThe assembly manual is not clear enoughâ
- âWith the battery it is a bit heavy.â
- âEverything works, but upgrading is recommended. Get better tires and seatâ
Vivi Mountain Bike
What we like about it
The Vivi is inexpensive and a little basic but at the same time pretty solid in many ways. We like that it has a strong 500 watt motor with a good 48V 12.5AH battery. This combo gives you good power and range for a very reasonable price. It also has mechanical disc brakes and front suspension, making it a comfortable ride. The battery is removable, which gives you options on when/where to charge it.
This e-bike is on the lighter side at just 53 pounds.
We like that its shifting components are made by Shimano, which is reputable and it also has 21 speeds (or gear combinations) that will give you a lot of flexibility when it comes to tackling a hilly commute.
Finally, it comes with a one-year warranty for the electric motor, battery, and the charger. This is especially nice for inexpensive e-bikes, which may require more tweaks and repairs.
Where it falls short
One downside is that the Vivi doesnât come with an LCD display screen, which means you wonât be able to see mileage or speed. That said, itâs not super common for e-bikes in this price range to come with an LCD display screen, and it does have a few light indicators for battery power and pedal assist level.
The last thing to note is that the rain fenders are pretty small and flimsy rain that look more like an after thought. They most likely wonât protect you from any rain or mud.
What weâve heard around town
- âGreat entry level e-bike at a reasonable priceâ
- âThis bike is very impressive, quick, and fastâ
- âThe ownerâs manual is bad, it doesnât tell you how to turn on the front headlightâ
ECOTRIC 20 Cheetah
What we like about it
The ECOTRIC 20 Cheetah is a decent e-bike at an affordable price, but its definitely not our top pick (see below for where it falls short), and itâs not our favorite folding e-bike on this list. On the upside, its fat tires make it a comfortable ride, and its 500w motor with a good battery give you a responsive ride. It also comes with decent rain fenders to reduce the splashes if you encounter puddles on your commute.
Since itâs a folding e-bike, it does come with the key benefits of easy transport and storage.
Where it falls short
Most folding e-bikes should come fully assembled since they can fold up. Unfortunately, The Cheetah does not, and requires a fair bit of assembly. The assembly seems to be challenging for most people, based on the reviews, and the instructions are poorly written. Itâs a good idea to follow an assembly video on YouTube.
Also, the electronics compartment is located below the battery on the bottom of the bike, close to where water will splash up off the road. Not ideal if you plan to ride in a wet climate.
What we’ve heard around town
- âThe rear derailleur will need a lot of adjusting to reach all of the gearsâ
- “Good value for money with decent battery life”
- “Nice quality grips made of faux leather with sewn edges.”
Auloor EUY
What we like about it
The Auloor EUY is a folding e-bike and the fastest e-bike on this list. Its top speed is 30 mph (though some owners have said that they havenât been able to reach the 30mph marketed by Auloor).
We love that unlike the other folding e-bikes on this list, this one comes with an integrated rear rack. This is great for those trips to the grocery store, or if you have a bunch of things to carry to your office. If you still want to be able to store the bike folded up, then weâd recommend using a couple of bungie cords to strap a milk crate to the back rack. Easy enough to remove when you want to fold up the bike and good enough to carry a bag of groceries.
This e-bikes comes with a 750 watt motor with 48 volt battery (from Samsung), which gives this e-bike a lot of power and range for its affordable price. It also has front fork suspension and a shock absorber on the seat post, which makes this a slightly more cushioned ride.
Finally, like a few other e-bikes on this list, they offer a 1 year warranty on the battery, motor, controller, and charger. This is especially useful for e-bikes in this price range because you may have more tweaks or repairs needed than you would for mid-range or high-end e-bikes.
Where it falls short
The location of the ignition is on the underside of the main top tube of the bike, making it difficult to turn on. Until you get familiar with the location of the key-slot, youâll spend a lot of time crouched underneath the bike fiddling with the key.
What weâve heard around town
- âBeen riding it daily now for over a month and couldnât be happier with the purchase.â
- âI like the speed and style of the bikeâ
- âThe price is great and worth itâ
