Aventon’s Aventure.2 e-bike is nothing short of impressive. Having test ridden the Aventure.1 (see my review), I was excited to see Aventon make some great upgrades for the Aventure.2. This e-bike is an excellent choice for commuters, casual riders, and even those seeking off-road adventures.

What we like about it
- Powerful Motor: The Aventure.2βs 750 watt more with (1130 watt peak power) impressively powerful. Itβs able to haul you and your gear effortlessly over various terrains.
- Torque Sensor: Kudos to Aventon for upgrading from a cadence sensor on the previous model. The torque sensor matches your pedaling cadence, delivering a more natural riding experience. The harder you pedal, the more assistance you receive, and vice versa.
- Versatile Design: The Aventure.2 is available in both step-over and step-through frames, accommodating various rider preferences and sizes. It can fit riders ranging from 5β3β to 6β4β.
- Convenient Features: Equipped with a full-color display that tracks your rides and connects to the Aventon app, you’ll have all your riding data right at your fingertips. The Aventure comes with a rear rack and fenders, plus integrated front and rear lights. It also has turn signals.
- Great Speed and Range: This e-bike can reach a top speed of 28 MPH with pedal assist, and the range is between 20 to 60 miles depending on how you use it. This makes it an excellent choice for both commuting and fun explorations.
- Comfortable Ride: With its 26β X 4β Inova puncture-resistant tires and front suspension, the Aventure rolls smoothly over almost any terrain, absorbing bumps and delivering a comfortable ride.
- Two-Year Warranty: Aventon is confident in their e-bikes and offers a two-year warranty to ensure your peace of mind. That alone is a testament to the bike’s reliability.
Where it falls short
- Weight: Weighing in at a hefty 77 pounds, the Aventure.2 is not the best choice for those who need to carry their bike up stairs. If weight is a concern, you might want to consider the lighter Level.2 (50 pounds) from Aventon.
- Noisy Brakes: Some people have reported online that the disc brake rotors can produce a resonating sound at certain speeds, which could be a minor annoyance during rides. I havenβt noticed that on my Aventure test rides.
- Minor Quality Control Issues: Some people have reported quality control issues or damages from shipping, however the majority were fixed in a timely manner by Aventon. To be honest, shipment damages is a challenge that most direct-to-consumer e-bike companies face and isnβt necessarily a ding against Aventon.
In-depth review
The first thing that stood out to me is the e-bike’s power. The Aventure.2’s 750-watt motor, which peaks at an impressive 1130 watts, handles various terrains like a dream. Hauling you and your gear over steep hills or navigating potholed city streets is easy, thanks to this robust motor. The Aventure.2 certainly doesn’t shy away from delivering the power you need, when you need it.
One of the biggest issues I found with the Aventure.1 was the delayed power output. I found that when getting started at a stop sign, it was a couple of seconds before the power kicked in. This was very frustrating when starting on a hill or having to get across a busy intersection quickly. I’m pleased to say that Aventon fixed this issue with the Aventure.2. Power is delivered quickly from the motor when you press the throttle or pedal.
I’m always very happy that Aventon upped its game by replacing the cadence sensor with a torque sensor. This improvement makes a significant difference in the riding experience. The torque sensor intuitively matches how hard you pedal β that means, the harder you pedal, the more assistance you get from the bike. I always prefer torque sensors over cadence sensors because you have much better control over the power of the e-bike. This is especially important if you are navigating around obstacles on your ride.
Performance-wise, the Aventure.2 does not disappoint. This e-bike can reach a top speed of 28 MPH with pedal assist, making it perfect for those looking for a quick commute. Depending on what pedal assist level you use, expect to get a range from 20 to 60 miles.
Design-wise, the Aventure.2 showcases Aventon’s thoughtful approach. Available in both step-over and step-through frames, the bike caters to a variety of rider sizes and preferences. Whether you’re a shorter 5’3″ or a taller 6’4″, you’re bound to find a model that fits your size and comfort requirements. Plus, the payload capacity of 400 pounds means this e-bike can easily handle heavier riders.
The Aventure.2 comes with a host of convenient features. I particularly enjoyed the full-color display that not only tracks your rides but also syncs with the Aventon app, providing you with all the data you need for a more informed ride. However, some people have reported issues with the reliability of the Aventon app. Practical additions like the rear rack, fenders, and integrated front and rear lights also add to the e-bike’s appeal, making it more than just a means to get from point A to B.
The Aventure.2 also has turn signals. They are easy enough to activate via the controls on the left side of the handlebars. The lights are located on the rear seat stays. While they are bright I’m not sure how noticeable they will be to a car, but they certainly would be noticed by another rider following behind you.
Another great feature of the Aventure is its big 4″ wide fat tires. These help make your ride smoother when you hit potholes on your commute. They are also good for rainy commutes when the roads are slippery.
What really speaks volumes about the Aventure.2’s reliability is Aventon’s two-year warranty. It’s an endorsement of quality and reliability from Aventon, which ensures peace of mind for the customer.
Despite its many strengths, the Aventure.2 does have a few drawbacks. For me, the biggest drawback is that it weighs 77 pounds. This isn’t an issue while you are riding (assuming your battery hasn’t run out π), it’s mainly an issue if you need to carry your e-bike up stairs. Its weight, plus big fat tires, make it difficult to carry and maneuver. If portability is a priority, you may want to consider Aventon’s Level.2, which weighs a more manageable 50 pounds.
Additionally, while I didn’t personally encounter this issue, some riders have reported a resonating sound from the disc brake rotors at certain speeds. While not a deal-breaker, it’s something to be aware of. Potentially upgrading the brake pads to something of higher quality may alleviate this issue.
Overall, the Aventure.2 is a strong contender for my top commuter e-bike pick. Its few shortcomings are easily overshadowed by its powerful performance, convenient features, and comfortable ride. If you’re looking for an e-bike that delivers power, comfort, and versatility, the Aventure.2 is a great choice.
