Lectric XP Lite
What we like about it
The Lectric XP Lite doesn’t require assembly because it’s folded up when it’s shipped to you — just unfold and you’re good to go. Obviously since it’s a folding e-bike, it’s also great for easy transport and has a small footprint when it’s stored. Its battery is removable, which is helpful for storage and gives you more options for when/where to charge it.
We like that the Lectric XP Lite on the lighter end for e-bikes, clocking in at 46 lbs. Its handlebars are adjustable, making it easy to find a nice riding position (which also helps if you have multiple people who will be sharing the e-bike).
It has a few things that you do not always see for e-bikes in this price range: it comes with a throttle and five levels of pedal assist (up to 20mph), it includes an LCD display screen, and it has “cruise control” mode. The “cruise control” works similarly to cruise control on a car. The e-bike will try to maintain a speed based on the position of the throttle when cruise control is activated. It is deactivated when you apply the brakes. This is helpful for a long flat road, but you definitely need to be cautious and continue to pay attention when using it.
Overall, this is a good e-bike for it’s low price.
Where it falls short
One potential downside depending on your needs is that Lectric XP Lite is a single speed (unlike other folding e-bikes on this list that come with multiple gears), so it doesn’t have gears to change when you hit a big hill. That said, this is mostly not an issue if you’ll be riding on flats or if you have a hilly but short commute. If you have a hilly commute that’s also long, you may find that using the pedal assist on the hills drains the battery too quickly.
If you are on the taller side (6’+ ) you may find the geometry of the e-bike a bit awkward. This happens on most folding bikes. When the wheels are small and low to the ground and the seat and handlebars are fully extended it makes you feel disconnected from the e-bike, which can take some getting used to and feel especially awkward on turns.
This e-bike doesn’t come with fenders, so if you plan to take it anywhere near a puddle your shoes and back of your shirt are going to be sprayed with water.
Finally, like most e-bikes in this price range, it comes with mechanical disc brakes, which are not as smooth as hydraulic.
